According to a report by ARY News on Thursday, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Dammam to Lahore, faced an emergency situation due to heavy rainfall in Lahore, and had to divert its route through Indian airspace.
The flight was identified as PK-248. Due to the weather conditions, the aircraft could not land at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, and the pilot had to turn the flight towards Multan.
The pilot informed the Indian civil aviation authority regarding the emergency situation, and they permitted the PIA aircraft to use its airspace.
The aircraft was directed to fly over the Indian city Firozpur while diverting to Multan. The plane landed safely at Multan airport. It is worth noting that Pakistan and India have had a strained relationship for decades, and their airspace is often closed to each other’s flights.
However, in this emergency situation, the Indian aviation authority granted permission to the PIA aircraft, allowing them to use Indian airspace.
