During a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif instructed for the immediate transfer of the reduced petrol and diesel prices to the public. He also directed the Interior Ministry and district administrations throughout the country to ensure a decrease in the prices of other commodities and take strict action against profiteers.
The Cabinet endorsed the decisions made in the National Security Committee meeting held earlier. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the establishment of an Insurance Tribunal in Rawalpindi, which will utilize the existing Accountability Court number 4 without incurring any additional expenses.
The Prime Minister briefed the Cabinet on his recent visit to the Pak-Iran border, where he highlighted the completion of a project for importing 100 megawatts of inexpensive electricity from Iran.
He emphasized that this project would provide electricity to South Balochistan, particularly Gwadar, and contribute to the development of backward areas in Balochistan. The Prime Minister also mentioned the inauguration of the Mand-Pishin Border Market, which is expected to enhance business and employment opportunities for residents on both sides of the Pak-Iran border.
Discussions with the Iranian President focused on bilateral trade promotion, cooperation in agriculture, science and technology, and solar energy. A high-level delegation led by the Foreign Minister will visit Iran to make progress on these issues. The Prime Minister highlighted the agreement on the “Route to Makkah” signed with Saudi Arabia, which will benefit a significant number of Pakistani pilgrims.
He expressed hope that, with the support of the Saudi government, this facility would be extended to Lahore and Karachi airports for intending pilgrims from the following year.
