The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the ongoing heatwave in Pakistan will subside as pre-monsoon rains are expected to commence from June 25. Most parts of the country, including upper and central regions, will likely witness rain and dust thunderstorms until June 30, with intermittent breaks.
Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper and central regions, accompanied by a westerly wave entering the upper parts on June 25. Consequently, areas such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin Din, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh are likely to experience rain, wind-thundershowers, and a few heavy falls between June 24 and 30, with intermittent breaks.
Additionally, Barkhan, Loralai, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Ziarat, Musakhel, DI Khan, Karak, Waziristan, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan can expect rain with wind thundershower and isolated heavy falls from June 26 to 29. Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Larkana may experience rain on June 27 and 28.
The PMD has cautioned about the possibility of heavy rainfall leading to urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore on June 26 and 27. In addition, landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
