In a major step towards promoting renewable energy, all 737 police stations in Punjab, including those in Lahore, are set to be equipped with solar power systems. This initiative was announced by the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, who shared details about the project and its phased rollout plan.
The project will be implemented in two stages. In the first phase, solar power systems will be installed at 350 police stations, with 40 of those stations located in Lahore. The second phase, which is planned for the next fiscal year, will see solar systems set up at the remaining 375 police stations.Each police station will be fitted with a 3-kilowatt solar power system, along with batteries to store the energy. This will ensure a consistent supply of electricity, even in case of power outages.
The installation of these solar systems marks an important milestone in Punjab’s efforts to embrace renewable energy and reduce its reliance on traditional power sources.This initiative not only highlights Punjab’s commitment to sustainability but also reflects the growing focus on environmental responsibility within essential public services like law enforcement. By transitioning to solar power, the police stations will help reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a greener, cleaner environment.The project is expected to significantly improve energy efficiency at police stations and reduce operational costs in the long run.
It will also play a key role in tackling power shortages that have affected many parts of the region.
