The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its disappointment with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after SLC showed interest in hosting the entire Asia Cup 2023. As a result, the PCB has rejected Sri Lanka’s proposal for an ODI series in Sri Lanka.
The tension between the PCB and SLC escalated when SLC stated their preference for hosting the Asian tournament instead of following the proposed ‘Hybrid Model’ suggested by Najam Sethi. The Hybrid Model suggested playing four matches in Pakistan initially and then moving the second phase to the UAE.
According to a report from the Press Trust of India (PTI), the strained relations between the two cricket boards led to the PCB rejecting Sri Lanka’s proposal to play a few ODI matches alongside their two-Test series in July this year, which is part of the World Test Championship (WTC).
A PCB source told PTI, “This rejection is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board’s offer to host the Asia Cup in September, especially when it is Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event at home.”
In simple terms, the PCB is unhappy with Sri Lanka Cricket for expressing their interest in hosting the Asia Cup 2023 instead of Pakistan. This has led to the PCB rejecting Sri Lanka’s proposal for an ODI series in Sri Lanka as part of the World Test Championship.
