A proposal put forward by former member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi, has been added to the agenda for the Senate meeting on March 4.
The proposal suggests stopping the use of big social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Senator Tangi believes these platforms have a bad influence, especially on young people, and wants to protect them from harmful content.
The proposal mentions concerns about these platforms spreading ideas against religion and culture, promoting hate, and sharing false information about Pakistan’s armed forces.
The PPP, Senator Tangi’s former party, has decided to remove him from the party because he didn’t follow party rules and didn’t explain his actions regarding another proposal he made earlier.
Senator Tangi was already kicked out of the party before this new proposal. It’s interesting that this proposal comes at a time when Twitter is already not accessible in Pakistan due to internet shutdowns during the February 8 elections.
