In a recent interview, Pakistani fast bowler and advisor to the Government of Punjab on sports, Wahab Riaz, expressed his opinion on the best captain he played under. When asked to choose between Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz picked Sarfaraz Ahmed as the sharpest captain.
Wahab Riaz acknowledged that he played under the captaincy of Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. He praised Sarfaraz for his sharpness as a captain and considered Misbah-ul-Haq as the most sensible. According to Wahab, Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi were supportive of the players.
When asked about the leadership skills of current captain Babar Azam, Wahab Riaz mentioned that he had limited time to play under his captaincy. He acknowledged that Babar Azam was in a learning phase during that time. However, Wahab emphasized that if he had to rate someone, Sarfaraz Ahmed was one of the best captains he had played under.
Sarfaraz Ahmed is regarded as one of the most successful Pakistan captains, having led the team to victory in two ICC tournaments – the Champions Trophy and the U19 World Cup – and achieving 11 consecutive T20I series victories.
