In Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) is responsible for regulating engineering professions and ensuring that only qualified individuals can use the title of engineer. Recently, during their regular inspections of engineering facilities across various regions of the country, the SCE discovered a case of impersonation.
An expatriate from Syria was found pretending to be an engineer on social media platforms, even though he hadn’t obtained the necessary professional accreditation from the SCE. This kind of action is a violation of Article 11 in the Engineering Professions Practice Law, which prohibits individuals from falsely claiming to be engineers without the required credentials.
The SCE took swift action against the violator and completed the necessary legal procedures in accordance with the Engineering Professions Practice Law. They then handed over the case to the Public Prosecution. As a result, the impersonator received a judicial ruling, which sentenced him to six months of imprisonment.
Additionally, he was fined SR100,000 for his unlawful actions.
This incident highlights the importance of adhering to professional regulations and obtaining proper accreditation before practicing as an engineer in Saudi Arabia. The SCE’s vigilant inspection campaigns serve to maintain the integrity and credibility of the engineering profession in the country.
