FIFA has officially announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup, showcasing the country’s increasing role in global sports.
This news comes alongside the confirmation that the 2030 World Cup will be hosted jointly by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. Additionally, three matches will take place in South America, making the 2030 tournament a historic event. For the first time, three continents—Europe, Africa, and South America—will come together to host the World Cup.
The bid from Morocco, Spain, and Portugal was the only one in the race after other proposals, such as a joint bid by the UK and Ireland and another involving South Korea, China, Japan, and North Korea, were withdrawn.
The 2030 World Cup will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the tournament. To mark this milestone, three games will be played in South America—Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina—paying tribute to the region where the first World Cup took place in 1930.
These announcements highlight FIFA’s efforts to create unique and inclusive tournaments that involve multiple countries and regions.
