Saudi Arabia Airlines is making a significant move to transform its domestic travel system by placing an order for 100 small electric planes from the German manufacturer Lilium. These aircraft are specially designed for air taxi services within the country and align with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by the year 2060.
These electric planes, each capable of accommodating four to six passengers, offer a premium travel experience. What makes them particularly innovative is their ability to land without the need for a traditional runway. Additionally, they boast an impressive range of up to 200 kilometers on just one electric charge.
While the introduction of these electric air taxis aims to enhance transportation convenience, it also entails the development of supportive infrastructure.
This includes setting up charging ports for the electric planes and establishing specific areas for passengers to board and disembark. There are speculations that these air taxis might be utilized for transporting pilgrims in Makkah, showcasing potential diverse applications for this advanced mode of air travel within the country.
