Scotland is preparing to launch the UK’s first-ever driverless bus network, called CAVForth. The autonomous buses will operate along a 14-mile route, with the aim of transporting around 10,000 passengers per week.
Although drivers will be present on board for emergencies, this will be the world’s first registered local bus service to implement autonomous technology. The buses can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and will be equipped with advanced systems, including artificial intelligence, to detect and prevent collisions.
The introduction of this service is expected to improve safety, fuel efficiency, and passenger experience. The buses will gather data and learn from their routes, contributing to advancements in autonomous travel.
Similar trials have been conducted in South Korea, Spain, and Singapore, highlighting the global growth of autonomous transportation.
