Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi, representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has decided to withdraw his proposal to ban major social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube. This decision comes after facing strong opposition from other members of the Senate.
The resolution put forward by Tangi aimed to prohibit popular websites like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter (now X), and YouTube. The intention behind this move was to protect the younger generation from what some perceive as the negative effects of these platforms on the country’s interests.
During the Senate session, several members, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed, expressed their disagreement with Tangi’s proposal. The situation became disruptive when Tangi tried to address the resolution.
Despite facing objections and disruptions, Tangi chose to withdraw his motion. He emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of every member to propose resolutions or legislation.
