The Pakistan cricket team took the top spot in the ICC ODI rating following yesterday’s victory over New Zealand in the fourth one-day match.
Taking a commanding 0-4 series lead and holding the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 102 runs in the fourth one-day international in the five-match series on Friday.
Pakistan scored 334 runs in the series’ fourth game in Karachi despite losing six players. Babar Azam stood out with a 107-run inning.
The New Zealand team’s response saw them dismissed for 232 runs in 43.4 overs. For Pakistan, Tom Latham scored 60 runs, Mark Chapman added 46 runs, Osama Mir had four strikeouts, and Mohammad Wasim had three.
With this victory, Pakistan became the first team to hold the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings since the rankings’ inaugural publication in 2005.
After winning the fourth game of the series against the Kiwis and moving up to the top spot in the ODI rankings, Shahid Afridi, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, released a special message.
In a post on social media, Shahid Afridi wrote, “Winning by 102 runs and becoming the top ODI team is fantastic, Weldon players.” He also commended the bowling of Osama Mir and Wasim Junior in addition to congratulating Babar Azam on reaching 5000 runs in ODIs and scoring a century in the game.
“Boys, the entire nation is very proud of you; you have raised our hopes in the upcoming World Cup,” he wrote.
