In a groundbreaking milestone, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tahira Yasub has shattered gender barriers by assuming the additional role of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Police Establishment, marking her as the first woman to hold such a prominent position in the region. The GB police lauded her appointment, acknowledging her as one of the most seasoned and proficient officers in the Gilgit-Baltistan Police Service through a social media post.
Tahira Yasub’s illustrious career showcases a wealth of administrative expertise across various departments, units, and branches within the region’s police force. Currently serving as Commandant Police Training College Gilgit, her prior roles include serving as AIG Logistics, a position that underscored her capabilities and leadership.
Notably, Yasub’s journey includes a historic appointment in 2011 as the first woman police officer to assume the role of Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Her commitment to professional development transcends borders, as evidenced by her 14-month training of local and UN police officers in Sudan in 2012.
The pinnacle of her career arrived in 2019 when she was promoted to the rank of SSP after serving as the inaugural woman Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gilgit-Baltistan. Yasub’s academic background is rooted in international relations, holding a degree from Karakoram International University. Her global engagement extends beyond national borders, having represented Pakistan in UN peacekeeping missions, showcasing her skills on an international stage.
