In a tragic incident today, a student lost his life during his 11th class board examination due to load shedding and extreme heat.
The incident took place at Government Degree College in the Thiri area of Khairpur, Sindh. Many students had gathered at the examination center to take their exams.
The student, identified as Mehtab Ali, fainted while writing his exam and was immediately taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he could not be revived and passed away.
Preliminary reports suggest that the student died due to suffocation.
It is reported that load shedding resulted in a lack of electricity and intense heat, creating a dangerous situation for the students. The temperature inside the examination hall rose significantly, making it unbearable for everyone present.
Earlier, the Minister for Education Board, Ismail, had urged authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply at examination centers, especially considering the high temperatures in Sindh.
This incident highlights a failure to implement necessary measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of students during important exams.
It is important to note that the Education Department of Sindh had previously announced summer vacations across the province. According to the notification, all educational institutions will have holidays from June 1, 2023, until July 31, 2023, with schools reopening on August 1.
The decision to conduct exams during the extremely hot weather in May, without reliable power supply, is now being questioned in light of this tragic incident.
