Its color was white According to Prophet (PBUH) when Hajr e Aswad descended from the Paradise, it appeared as milky white, then it turned black due to the sins of the children of Adam.

It was divided into pieces Hajr e Aswad was a complete single stone in the start, however, due to various incidents which occurred throughout history, it is now in pieces of 8 with difference in their sizes which have been affixed to a large silver frame.

Piece in Istanbul A dark side of the history of this majestic stone is that when it was divided, 6 pieces of it were taken to Istanbul situated in Turkey. One of these pieces are displayed in the Mihrab of the Blur Mosque while one more at the entrance of the tomb of Suleiman. The remaining 4 are in the SokulluSehit Mehmet PasaCamii Mosque.

Stealing Hajr e Aswad was taken from Makkah and remained lost for 23 years. The Qarmatians took Hajr e Aswad in January 930 and took it to their Hajar base by the Qarmatian leader, Abu Tahir al Qarmati. Abu Tahir al Qarmati was a Qarmati ruler of historical and ancient Bahrain. His brother Abu Saad Hasan Ibn Bahram al-Jannabi was the Founder of the Qarmatian state. Abu Tahir al- Qarmati became the leader in 923.

Attack on the Holy Kaaba On the very first day of Hajj, the Qarmatians attacked Makkah with the intention to steal Hjar e Aswad. The Qarmatians army came up with their horses and entered Masjid al Haram. They started brutal killing of the pilgrims. The reports indicate that about 30,000 pilgrims were killed as they were praying around the Kaaba.

They looted the Kaaba, buildings were destroyed, houses were taken down, slaves were taken, Hajr e Aswad was stolen and the dead bodies were thrown in the well of Zamzam to despoil it while other dead ones were left on the streets to get rotten away.

Abu Tahir It was said that Abu Tahir was the one who stole Hajr e Aswad and held it in his possession. He took it to masjid Dirar to be placed there. He wanted to make the Masjid a sacred place and redirect the Hajj from Makkah to Masjid al Dirar. But he never got what he wished for.

Recovery of Hajr e Aswad The stone was taken away 23 years later by paying huge ransom money. The Abbasids had to pay a huge amount to get the black stone back. It was broken down into pieces of seven during is hostage and removal.

Witness on the day of Judgement The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah will raise the black stone on the Day of Resurrection with two eyes by which it sees and a tongue that it speaks and testifies to whoever touched it in truth.

Dua being accepted The black stone is one of the 8 places in the Holy Kaaba where dua is accepted.
