Photographer Giorgia Hofer has created a stunning artwork called “Moon Cycle in One Image.” This beautiful picture, shared on Reddit, shows the different phases of the moon over the Cridola Group peaks in Italy. Hofer took 28 photos of the moon throughout the year to make this incredible composition.
To capture the moon, Hofer used her Nikon D750 camera with a Sigma 120-400mm lens set at 400mm. For the landscape, she used her Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 20mm lens, adjusting the exposure to 8 seconds, ISO 800, and aperture f/8. Despite the expectation that it would take a month to capture the image, it actually took Hofer almost a year due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The picture displays the moon’s different phases, with the fading phases on the left side taken in January, and the growing phases on the right side captured between July and December. The moon’s pattern in the sky, called an Analemma, is caused by the tilt of the Earth’s axis and our slightly elliptical orbit around the sun.
Hofer’s photograph not only captures the beauty of the moon’s cycle but also highlights the fascinating celestial phenomenon that affects its appearance in the sky.
