Toyota is now showcasing its gigapressing technology in Japan, taking inspiration from Tesla’s use of this method for creating large components in electric vehicles (EVs).
While Toyota has been a bit slow in fully adopting EVs, it has big plans to make 3.5 million EVs each year by 2030. Toyota’s gigacasting process involves pouring melted aluminum into a mold to create a single piece that forms the rear part of a vehicle’s frame.
This innovative approach significantly reduces the number of parts needed and the time it takes to assemble them. Toyota aims to achieve 20% higher productivity compared to other electric vehicle makers by using this technology in their upcoming EV models.
