The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently announced new traffic regulations aimed at enhancing safety during wet weather conditions. These changes include the introduction of stricter penalties and fines of up to 2,000 dirhams for drivers found in violation of the rules.

Strict Penalties

One of the new violations is congregating near valleys, flooded areas, or dams during wet weather. This action can result in a fine of 1,000 dirhams and six demerit points on the driver’s record. Driving over flooded valleys, regardless of the level of danger, can incur a hefty penalty of 2,000 dirhams, 23 demerit points, and a 60 day car impoundment.

Preventing authorities from regulating traffic, obstructing the movement of emergency vehicles, or driving through flooded valleys can lead to a fine of 1,000 dirhams, four demerit points, and a 60-day car impoundment.

Authorities have issued warnings in the past, advising residents and visitors to avoid valleys and dams during heavy rain. Due to the rapid flooding that can occur in low lying areas. Despite these warnings, people often venture to mountainous regions for pleasant weather

These newly enacted rules aim to protect individuals from potential dangers associated with flooding. Drivers are now prohibited from traveling to flood prone areas during rainy conditions. This measure seeks to prevent incidents where vehicles become stranded, leaving people in precarious situations.

Reinforcing Safety Measures and Compliance

The Ministry of the Interior states that these changes are intended to reinforce existing safety measures. He emphasizes the importance of following instructions and safety requirements. Brigadier General Engineer Hussein Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, underlines the significance of the amendments. And urges people to exercise utmost care and caution during unstable weather conditions.

In addition to adhering to traffic laws, drivers have a responsibility to avoid endangering themselves and others on the road. They must comply with traffic signs, follow police directions, stay in designated lanes, and heed guidance from authorities during emergencies. Road users are also expected to refrain from causing harm, obstruction, or disruption to others.

The implementation of these new regulations aims to promote safer driving practices and protect individuals from potential hazards during inclement weather. By raising awareness and enforcing stricter penalties, the UAE aims to create a safer road environment for all its residents and visitors.
