The UAE is gearing up for significant regulatory changes in 2025, marking another step toward enhancing residents’ lives and ensuring societal well-being. From driving laws to workplace inclusivity, these new rules are set to reshape key aspects of daily life.

Lower Driving Age and Stricter Road Safety

Starting March 29, UAE residents as young as 17 will be eligible to apply for a driving license under new traffic regulations. Alongside this change, authorities are introducing strict measures to curb noise pollution from vehicles and prohibit unnecessary horn use within city limits. Pedestrian safety will also be a focus, with rules barring road crossings where speed limits exceed 80kmph.

Nutrition Transparency on Food Labels

From June 1, food products in Abu Dhabi will require a Nutri-Mark label indicating their nutritional value, graded from A (most healthy) to E. This initiative targets obesity and encourages informed food choices. The first phase will cover baked goods, oils, dairy products, children’s food, and beverages, with penalties for non-compliance.

Women Representation on Company Boards

Promoting gender equality, the UAE Ministry of Economy has mandated that all private joint-stock companies allocate at least one board seat to women. Effective January 1, this decision seeks to amplify women’s voices in leadership roles across the private sector.

Genetic Testing for Premarital Screening

From the beginning of the year, genetic testing will become mandatory for Emirati couples preparing to marry. The move aims to identify potential hereditary health risks and aligns with the UAE Genome Programme’s efforts to address genetic disorders.

Expanded Emiratisation Targets

The government will extend Emiratisation targets to smaller private sector companies with 20-49 employees. These businesses must employ at least two Emirati nationals by 2025 or face financial penalties. This adjustment emphasizes the UAE’s commitment to integrating its citizens into the workforce.

As these updates take effect, the UAE continues to focus on innovation, inclusivity, and public welfare, setting an example for sustainable progress.
