Starting today, UAE residents will no longer be able to share Netflix passwords outside their homes. The streaming giant’s password-sharing crackdown has officially reached the UAE. With restrictions on password-sharing implemented in more than 100 countries. It includes significant markets like the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil.
A customer service representative confirmed the new restriction. It states that only members living in the same house can share passwords and use the same account. Password-sharing across the street or with neighbors is not permitted anymore.
To enforce the policy, Netflix is closely monitoring the WiFi network and IP address of devices accessing the platform. This measure is also being implemented in India. Netflix is sending out emails to customers found to be sharing their accounts with people outside their household.
Furthermore, Netflix now offers an option for paying customers to add an extra member from outside their household. However, this comes with an additional monthly expense. Members can transfer a person’s profile while keep viewing personalized recommendations and history.
Earlier, Netflix announced its crackdown on illicit password-sharing in the US. With the aim to increase revenue from customers who share their logins with friends.
In an email to US customers, Netflix emphasized that accounts are strictly meant for users and their household members. Sharing passwords with others outside the household is no longer allowed.
