The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has opened applications for the prestigious Fulbright Student Programme 2024. This program, backed by the U.S. government, is renowned for being the world’s largest in terms of financial contribution.

It offers an opportunity for Pakistani students across various disciplines, including energy, water, agriculture, health, education, environmental science, and climate change. Notably, clinical medicine applications are excluded, but non-clinical public health applications are actively encouraged.

Applicants interested in this opportunity can submit their applications on the official website, www.usefp.org, with the deadline set for February 28, 2024. The Fulbright Program is comprehensive in its coverage, encompassing graduate studies, tuition, maintenance, insurance, and air travel.

To be eligible, applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and achieve a minimum score of 145 in both the verbal and quantitative sections. Additionally, shortlisted candidates will undergo assessment through the Duolingo English Test.

The impact of the Fulbright Program in Pakistan has been significant, as emphasized by US Ambassador Donald Blome. He pointed out that previous Pakistani Fulbright scholars have played key roles in solving social problems, shaping new laws, and advancing policies to ensure equal access and representation for all.

Ambassador Blome highlighted that these contributions aim at a singular purpose: creating a better, safer, and more prosperous Pakistan. He underscored the unity between the United States and Pakistan in this shared goal.

Since 2005, the Fulbright Programme has supported nearly 3,000 Pakistani students, providing them with fully funded scholarships for graduate studies. These scholars have completed their education and research, and they are now actively contributing to both the public and private sectors with their acquired knowledge and expertise.

USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar, in a message to potential applicants, encourages talented students and working professionals to seriously consider applying.

Notably, she emphasized the program’s merit-based nature, considering the obstacles and challenges applicants have faced alongside their achievements.

Akhtar highlighted one of the primary goals of the Fulbright Program: building human capacity in Pakistan. She noted that successful applicants are expected to return to Pakistan after completing their degrees, utilizing their newly acquired skills and knowledge for the betterment of the country.

Additionally, Akhtar expressed a particular interest in encouraging applications from candidates in public universities and under-served areas, further emphasizing the program’s commitment to inclusivity and capacity-building across diverse backgrounds.
