India might choose not to include Virat Kohli in their team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This tournament is set to take place in the USA and West Indies starting from June 1.
After India’s disappointing loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where they were defeated by England in the semi-final, Kohli didn’t play T20I matches for over a year.
Although Kohli returned to the T20 format earlier this year for a series against Afghanistan, his performance wasn’t great. While Rohit Sharma, his teammate, played well in all matches, Kohli didn’t perform as expected in the two matches he played.
Sharma has been confirmed as the captain for the 2024 World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. However, Kohli’s spot in the team remains uncertain.
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is thinking about leaving Kohli out of the squad. They believe that at 35 years old, Kohli may not have the skills needed for the T20 format anymore. With India not winning an ICC tournament since 2013, the selection committee wants to make a bold decision, and Kohli might be affected by this choice.
