A Virgin Atlantic plane flew from London to New York using eco-friendly fuel called sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This shows that the aviation industry is trying to use cleaner options, even though SAF is just a small part of the fuel they use.
The flight had fewer passengers, including Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin. The plane will use regular fuel on the way back to London.
Airlines want to use fuel made from waste to cut emissions by 70%, but it’s tough because making SAF costs a lot and there’s not enough material. Right now, SAF makes up less than 0.1% of global jet fuel and is three to five times more expensive than regular jet fuel.
