WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is making updates and adding new features to enhance the user experience. One of the recent updates includes changes to the user interface.
According to WaBetaInfo, the instant messaging app has introduced a new calling button and a context menu. This update has been submitted through the TestFlight beta Program, and the version is now 23.11.0.76.
Initially, the new update is available to some iOS beta testers and will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. After installing the latest update on iOS, users may notice a change in group chats with the addition of a new calling icon in the chat header.
In group chats, if the feature is enabled, users will see a different icon. They can still make group calls, but now the icon includes a context menu. The menu provides two options for users: they can choose to make either a video or an audio call.
Previously, there was an action sheet with separate options for video and audio calls, or two buttons to initiate the respective calls. However, the latest update has replaced it with a context menu.
“If you see a video call button with a plus sign above the icon, it means the feature is enabled for your account,” explained the WhatsApp watcher.
iOS users generally prefer the context menu over an action sheet because it offers an enhanced visual appeal and seamlessly integrates within the interface, resulting in a clean and elegant design.
