A resident of Dubai took two photos that capture a significant change at one of the city’s popular malls. Zahra Khimji, originally from Kenya, shared these photos she had taken two months apart.
The pictures reveal that The Dubai Mall, which had been its name for over 14 years since it opened, now goes by the simpler name ‘Dubai Mall’. Zahra, who works at a retail store in the mall, noticed the name change over the weekend.
She realized she had a photo of the mall’s name with the word ‘The’ and shared both images on her Instagram account. One of her friends posted them as an Instagram story, which quickly became popular.The mall had announced its new name in January through a TikTok video, though they didn’t provide a specific reason for the change.
The mall’s social media accounts and official website also reflect the new name.The Dubai Mall is renowned as the world’s largest destination for shopping, entertainment, and leisure.
It is situated next to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. With 1,200 retail stores, two major department stores, and numerous food and beverage outlets, it spans over 1 million square meters, equivalent to 200 football pitches.
